Djinn, 2014.

Residue of ignited, nineteenth-century magnesium flash powder in glass bottle on pedestal. ø 10 cm x h 22 cm (bottle). Permanent collection FOMU - Antwerp.

An attempt to physically capture light lies at the base of her work Djinn (2014). By igniting a 19th-century magnesium powder flash into a glass receptacle she literally tries to catch the passing of time like a butterfly in a jar. One might consider Djinn to be an abstract photograph of time, captured in a bottle and conserved for a future moment. - Thomas Caron, SMAK
