Albedo, 2019.
Neon, reflective fabric, powdercoated metal frame, high voltage transformer. H. 240 cm.
Reflective fabric traditionally used in (studio)photography to (re)direct light is set in combination with a cartoonesque depiction of rays of light, which hoovers over the reflective satellite shapes like a shiny object in the night sky.
The term ‘albedo’ commonly refers to the reflective capacities of a surface, or to the ‘whiteness’ of a surface, with 0 meaning black and 1 meaning white. The more light reflected by the surface, the higher the albedo. In astronomy, albedo refers to the proportion of the incident light or radiation that is reflected by the surface of a planet or moon.
